Live in St Thomas Point in SC -- want to hunt --want to fish?

Sat, Jun 11th 2011 3:36 pm by Deep Water

For those wanting to take part in the real estate business around Francis Marion National forest, hunting can be a fruitful activity with the great variety of game abounding in the natural park.

photo of a white tailed deer

The forest is very large and offer all of the game that a seasoned hunter enjoys. When in season, whitetail deer, turkeys, quail, and scads of small game are all available for the hunt.

Coupled with the impressive diversity of game in the forest, the aesthetic appeal of the area is immediately made obvious. The forest has environments ranging from broadleaf and pine forests to rocky waterfalls to cypress swamps that support not only hunters but also those with a penchant for fish...

SC Safe Homes -- a secret?

Fri, Jun 10th 2011 3:40 pm by Real Estate Tips
SC Safe Homes is a mystery to most homeowners and business owners in South Carolina.

It is amazing to me that so few people seem to know anything about this ability to save money on their homeowners or commercial insurance.

Just recently, we were able to save a homeowner over $6,000 on their homeowners insurance----what?    “You are kidding, right” is the answer that I get when someone listens to me.

No, I am not kidding.  The SC safe home inspection was completed by a SC Safe Home Inspector and the home was found to qualify for the highest discount -- 25%.

So, that homeowner's insurance must be expensive if we saved them over $6,000, right?

Wrong --- what happens is that the savings...

What about Blogging?

Tue, May 31st 2011 5:16 pm by Educational

Jeremy Blanton of 210 Consulting recently held a webinar for AgentOwned Realty on "Blogging for Real Estate Leads".210 Consulting logo and Jeremy Blanton & Jason Crouch

It was excellent, by the way.

There are a few things that I wanted to reiterate:

  • blog posts should be between 300 and 800 words
  • always have at least 2 photos
  • lists (such as this one) are always good
  • use short paragraphs -- is so much easier to read
  • remember that the average reading level in the universe is 5th grade level
  • write in simple terms -- not real estate slang
  • be yourself -- write like you speak
  • be human
  • be consistent

Now,  I can share with you a easy way to know how many words you have written -- for example, I'm at 114 words now -- No, I did not si...

Hot Real Estate Market -- what?

Mon, May 30th 2011 2:57 pm by Market conditions

How long since you have heard the phrase "hot real estate market"?

photo of AgentOwned real estate office at Johnnie Dodds, Mt Pleasant SC

If you were around my real estate office this weekend, you would be thinking that it is a hot real estate market in Mt Pleasant SC.

The agent-owners have been coming and going -- meeting clients -- writing contracts -- ratifying contracts -- -ratifying contract after listing on the market for one day.

So what is selling?  After checking the Charleston Trident MLS, it appears that all price ranges are selling-- from $200,000 to over $1,000,000 -- however, the majority of sales in the Mt Pleasant area seem to be under $400,000.

During the month of May the below have gone under contract in Mt Pleasant:

The   Wikipedia  defines Memorial Day as: "Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 30 in 2011). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while in the military service.[1] First enacted by former enslaved Africans[citation needed] to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War – it was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars. "

Christmas in May?

Sat, May 28th 2011 2:30 pm by This and That

Why would I say such a thing as "Christmas in May?"?  Well, I have this beautiful  poinsettia  that is still beautiful --- it was purchased in December 2010 --

                                           Poinsetttia plant

and this photo was taken May 23, 2011 ---- WOW -- it just does not want to die --- it even has new growth.

According to Aggie Horticulture the way to keep a poinsettia blooming for a longer time one needs to:"Check your poinsettia daily and follow these tips. Water your poinsettia frequently but don't drown it. Keep the plant out of drafts, hot or cold. Place the plant in good light inside the house. And finally, after blooming, discard or begin preparing the plant to bloom agai...

Is It a Good Time to Buy a Home?

Sun, May 22nd 2011 4:37 pm by Real Estate Tips

photo of a home

What do people think?  Do people think that this is  a good time to buy a home?

There have been three separate surveys just recently who say that it is.

  1. The Gallup Poll which showed that 69% of Americans think this is a good time to buy.
  2. Fannie Mae’s National Housing Survey which reported that Americans believe that homeownership is the investment with the most potential. They chose owning a home over other traditional investments such as stocks, mutual funds and bonds.
  3. The Pew Research Center study Home Sweet Home. Still explaining that 81% agree that buying a home is the best long-term investment a person can make.

Well, today at 1:00 pm, Liza had her last radiation treatment -- as is ceremonial at Roper Radiation Center, the patient rings the bell signifying that she/he has completed their radiation treatment.

The family was there to show support and to celebrate with her. This was indeed a veryemotional time and a very joyous time for all of us.

She had the biggest smile on her face after her treatment -- the first smile I have seen in several weeks.

Now, we begin the healing process which we understand from her doctor is a long process -- however, we don’t care -- we just know that today the healing can begin...

Radiation Treatment - Piece of Cake?

Sun, May 15th 2011 4:00 pm by Family

Is radiation treatment really just a piece of cake?

Well, quite a few well wishers informed our daughter, Liza, and our family that radiation treatment for her breast cancer wouldlady going thru radiation treatment be a ‘piece of cake’.

Since Liza had undergone chemo, we were looking for some relief. We all wanted so much to believe that she would not have to undergo anymore pain.

So, we believed them and she went into her radiation treatment with high expectations of no pain, no nausea,no feeling drug out.

Being the optimistic family that we are, we were so thrilled that her misery was behind her.

Well, I guess radiation on different parts of the body act differently and also, I guess that there are probably different “dos...

Mt Pleasant SC - Do you like crabs?

Fri, May 6th 2011 4:49 pm by People

I like crabs, do you?

OK, living on the coast can cause you to learn to like a lot of different types of “sea animals”.

photo of 2 boys crabbingGoing crabbing with the children is so much fun.  How does one go about “crabbing”?

Well, professionals use crab traps.  But those of us non-professionals use chicken necks and string or nets.

What is necessary to go on a crabbing adventure with the children?
1) chicken necks
2) string
3) bucket
4) net to scoop them up

Tie a long string around the chicken neck and throw into the water.  Oh, BTW, you do not absolutely have to have salt water, but brackish water will do tool.
