The broker-in-charge is key to the success of a real estate office. The characteristics of a good broker-in-charge are:

  2. Honest

  4. Dependable
  5. Knowledgeable
  6. Excellent Negotiator
  7. Excellent Closer
  8. Positive -- upbeat
  9. Available 24-7 for his/her agents
  10. Coach   Broker-in-charge

Things that you don't want to hear from your Broker-in-charge

  1. Sorry, I can't talk to you until I finish what I am doing.
  2. Don't call me after 6:00 pm --- problems come up after 6:00 pm
  3. Don't call me  before 9:00 am --- problems come up before 9:00 am
  4. The new contract form is so confusing - I don't understand it at all.
  5. I don't know -- when you have asked a very simple question that any knowledgeable Broker would know.
  6. I don't feel good today.
  7. I have had a lousy week.
  8. It is raining and lousy weather.

REALTORS need a broker-in-charge who is readily available to them, is always upbeat, knowledgeable on the real estate business in general. A broker who can answer contract questions on the spot -- one who can teach you about negotiating a contract -- one who is very experienced. There is no substitute for experience.

Yes, when a REALTOR is in the middle of contract negotiations and an issue comes up, the experience of the broker comes in very handy. Most likely, the experienced broker has seen that situation before and knows a quick solution.

There is nothing worse for an agent than to not be able to find their Broker when they need him/her.
